A New Yorker in South Melbourne

There’s a new kid on the South Melbourne block. The New Yorker.

Located on the corner of York and Clarke Street is New Yorker, the latest office building to come to South Melbourne’s business district. Built on an old open air car park, project architects Clarke Hopkins Clarke have managed to master balanced design; combining down town Big Apple chic with Melbournian charm.

The office complex features EDGE Architectural aluminium framing systems. The development makes use of MAX™ 150mm front double glaze framing to provide a slim and contemporary façade. In addition to aesthetic benefits, MAX™ double glazing will increase interior comfort for future corporate tenants, who will enjoy the thermal advantages during cold and warm seasons. Access more information on EDGE Architectural’s MAX™ 150mm front double glazing, here.

A couple of weeks ago Team EDGE visited York Street to see how the project was looking.

Clarke Hopkins Clarke on New Yorker

“Located in a prominent position on York Street, South Melbourne, this new 6 level office building captures striking views towards the city and creates a dynamic, contemporary addition to this design precinct. The form has been designed with sensitivity to the surrounding streetscape, incorporating extensive glazing at ground level to create a transparent platform for interaction with the street. Outdoor spaces have been integrated into the scheme, with large terraces on the upper floors and a north facing courtyard at ground level acting as breakout spaces. The façade design and layout allows natural light throughout the building, providing a healthy and welcoming work space”.
